When the world’s tourism is threatened by the COVID-19 pandemic, Iceland is the first nation to open its doors to visitors.

The global security index does this by looking at crime rates, political landscapes, natural disasters, and, most critically these days, “health threats.” Iceland has been performing large-scale preventive experiments since January, which explains why Covid-19 has had no impact there. It was the first nation to be free of the virus.

Iceland has also put in place the requisite security measures to ensure that tourists are secure.

For the 12th year in a row, Iceland has been voted the safest nation in the world (2020)
